Corporate organizational structures can more fully be represented by a 3D solid rather than a two dimensional, flat, hierarchy. The three dimensional shape can look lie a cone, with the CEO at the vertex at the top, and the individual contributors at the bottom. Each layer can be represented by a cross section in the cone.
The functions are represented by going around the cone at any height. The placement of the functions should be arranged so related disciplines are next to each other. This is not absolute, obviously, but for any company the communication paths and project collaboration frequency can help determine the functions around the circumference in the circles.
The diagnostic use of this is to help show where challenged organizations are in the hierarchy to aid in operational improvements.
Other infographics might include network diagrams, or more explicit diagrams showing headcount more clearly to indicate organizations that are out of balance.
